I have heard from some of my friends that the action of Bitcoin in the market determines how other coins behave. I am struggling to believe that because some alt coins see green even when BTC is dipping. What do you think about that?

It's the market leader. Market leaders always take control, it's just how it works.

No, I really do not believe that Bitcoin controls the rest if I am honest and that is because all to often you will see another type of crypto doing better than bitcoin. I believe and have always said that it's the market leader that controls it and you can never go by bitcoin leading all. It may be one of the more popular ones for sure but definitely not the one that leads the rest.
